DSA Career Counselling psychologists use the latest computer based assessment strategies including personality, career interests, motivating factors and cognitive abilities to help you find your career direction.

At DSA Career Counselling career testing is undertaken using the Genesys suite of programs.  These have been developed by Psytech International in England and have now been established with Australian normative data. Genesys is part of our full career assessment and a variety of tests may be undertaken within it. Usually these tests include abilities tests such as verbal, numerical and abstract abilities, personality tests including 15FQ+ and Jung Type Indicator, a values and motives scale (the VMI) and a career interests test called the occupational interests profile. A computer based report is generated for each of the tests which are used and these are discussed in the followup session with the psychologist in framing a series of recommendations for the client.

Testing as part of careers counselling is an expensive business and is only used when requested by the client. As such our offerings to clients are two types of career assessment:

1. Career chat, which is suitable for people wanting to discuss and clarify issues or confirm a particular direction they want to take. This may involve more than one session if the client needs to, but no report is generated. It is at the rate of our standard counselling session.

2. Full Career assessment. This is conducted over two separate consultations with the first session including the computer based testing on the Genesys programs as discussed above. This is particularly suitable for people undertaking major career direction change or for people wanting an extensive assessment to determine their initial career direction. The testing is conducted online using a computer at our Ringwood office.

At the initial appointment clients should bring their resume, results of any previous assessments, and appropriate school, college or university results. The initial appointment involves one counselling session as well as the computer based testing (if the initial session is conducted at Ringwood – if at another location the client has to travel to Ringwood for the computer testing).  The followup session is usually held several days after the testing session.
