Karen is a Clinical psychologist who completed a Doctoral degree in Clinical Child, Adolescent and Family Psychology in 1998. The bulk of her professional career has been spent at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre working in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. In that role she saw children, adolescents, parents and families presenting with a wide range of difficulties. She has successfully worked with people of all ages experiencing the full spectrum of mental health issues, from generalized anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, separation anxiety in children, eating disorders, to depression and psychosis.
In addition to particular interest in treating all forms of anxiety and mood disorders, Karen is also experienced helping parents and families to improve their functioning; dealing with trauma and abuse; grief counseling; conducting cognitive and educational assessments; and helping people to improve their self-esteem and happiness. In addition she is well able to assist adults in individual therapy with a wide range of psychological disorders, particularly anxiety, depression, phobias, addictive behaviours, stress management and eating disorders.
Karen uses cognitive behavioural therapy as her main therapeutic approach. She is a compassionate and attentive listener who believes that everybody with the right support possesses the capabilities to improve their functioning and happiness.
Karen is also the mother of two children and understands the rewards and challenges of parenting.
Karen consults at Ringwood on Monday afternoon and Lilydale on Saturday morning.
