Marie Anderson

>> Marie is on extended family leave until Easter 2010

Marie comes to private practice from a long history in human resources and training, and her experience has been extended in recent years with positions in occupational rehabilitation and health psychology at a leading general hospital.  She has now developed extensive skills in treating a wide variety of adult and older adolescent clients with problems including depression, anxiety, phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, self esteem and confidence issues, loss and grief, relationship difficulties, and eating and substance abuse problems.  She also has experience in working with clients with stress, pain and anger management issues and has considerable experience in assisting clients with problems relating to their work or careers.

Marie takes a wholistic view of mental health and emotional wellbeing.  She has particular training in CBT and works collaborately with her clients towards achieving wellbeing and a balanced sense of self. She supports her clients to challenge their self-limiting beliefs, help them to explore their passions, achieve their personal and vocational goals, and realise a purposeful and fully self-expressed life.  She is an advocate for striking a balance in all areas as a way forward to attaining good mental and physical health.

Currently, Marie is completing a Doctorate in Health Psychology at La Trobe University, where she also works as a Psychology Tutor.  Her research is exploring the use of motivational strategies for parents to support their children to change their health behaviours.  Given her doctoral work, training with the Parent Research Centre, and personal experience as a parent, she has developed a special interest in working with parents to help them cope with and manage the challenges of raising young children and adolescents.  This includes supporting parents who require treatment for pre and post natal depression.
