Dr Sharon Gilroy

BA (Hons Psychology), MA (Clin & Ed Psych), DPsych (Forensic) MAPsS, ANZAPPL, ARACY

Sharon is a clinical psychologist and family therapist. She completed a dual degree in Clinical and Educational Psychology in 1982, training as a Family Therapist in 1988, and a degree in Forensic Psychology in 2007.

For a great deal of her career Sharon has worked at the Children’s Court Clinic in Melbourne, where she has seen children, adolescents and their families who are referred by court for a wide range of difficulties. She also has worked in early intervention services, psychiatric services for adults, children and adolescents, and in the development of services for the education and employment of people with disabilities and other disadvantages. In more recent years, Sharon has accepted work as an independent case analyst with the Office of the Child Safety Commissioner. In these positions, Sharon has developed extensive knowledge and experience working with children and young people of all ages, their families and adults, either individually or within various family constellations.

In addition to an interest in treating anxiety and mood disorders, Sharon has successfully worked with people experiencing relationship problems, grappling with experiences of trauma, dealing with grief and loss. Her preference is to work from an evidenced-based practice model, using cognitive behavioural therapy and multi-systemic therapy approaches.

Sharon is available for appointments at our Ringwood rooms on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. She is a Specialist Clinical Psychologist for the purposes of Medicare rebates.
