Coaching has become one of the new buzzwords in organizational development and psychological services.
Essentially, coaching defines an undertaking by psychologists at DSA Corporate Services to enter into a contract with a client, usually a senior manager or executive of an organization, to assist them in both personal and professional development particularly in relation to psychological or personal and interpersonal areas. The structure of this contract is usually of a regular weekly or fortnightly meeting following an initial assessment period and determination of the contract.
Contracts between psychologists and the manager/executive are individually based depending on the needs of the manager. Frequent areas include self-understanding, often by way of psychological testing, career development, stress management, personal confidence, time management, interpersonal communication, assertiveness training and decision-making.
In several of the areas being developed, the psychologist will undertake to research the best way to attain the stated goals and this may include referral to an outside resource such as a short-term course, for example in assertiveness training.
