Assistance Programs (EAP) |
Individual counselling is the cornerstone of all of our work at David Stickels & Associates, whether through our clinical and counselling service DSA Psychologists, our career assessment service DSA Career Counselling or our organizational service DSA Corporate Services.
The vehicle for providing individual counselling to employees of organizations is an EAP (or Employee Assistance Program). This is a program offered by medium to large organizations to their employees for counselling about personal or family issues that do not generally include work related problems. The latter are covered under the general provision of Workcover compensation. Some work related issues may be discussed where difficulties at work do not involve or imply a responsibility by management in causing that difficulty.
Problems frequently presented to DSA Psychologists in Employee Assistance Programs most frequently include relationship or family difficulties. Employers are often willing to provide EAP to assist their employee if the problems at home are leading to absenteeism or significantly reduced performance by the worker.
Almost as frequently, employees attending under an EAP agreement are attending because of depression, anxiety, general stress or generally lowered performance and satisfaction which is again impeding their progress at work.
Generally, the number of consultations in an EAP agreement is for the worker to have six counselling sessions with a psychologist, but sometimes an individual worker may be granted an extra three sessions. These are arranged via an agreement between David Stickels & Associates and the employer to provide an EAP to the company for a specified period of time. This is usually twelve months.
Employers wanting to arrange an EAP program should contact either the Melbourne or Ringwood central offices, depending on the nearest location of the organization to these centres. A meeting with the principal, David Stickels, will be arranged.
