Grief and Loss
Grief is a normal and natural reaction to losing someone or something important or having a major change in our familiar pattern of living. Grief is the feeling we experience in response to having something that is valued or someone we are attached to removed from our lives.

Grief and loss can be experienced by children, adolescents and adults at various times throughout their lives.

Some of the losses that may occur during a life time include: death of a family member or friend, separation and divorce, loss or change in employment, moving house or relocating to a new area, separation of parents, illness or disability, traumatic events, loss of a pet, and loss of security or dreams/beliefs or sense of future.

Grief can have an impact on our behaviour and our relationships. Our experience of grief often includes difficult feelings (sadness, anger, guilt, disbelief, anxiety, depression), as well as physical reactions, thoughts and behaviours. Support from others is usually one of the most important factors in working through grief and loss experiences.

DSA Psychologists are trained in supporting children, adolescents, adults and families in working through grief and assisting people to manage change and loss and to meaningfully engage in their lives. DSA Psychologists also has considerable experience in conducting groups on grief and loss for adults and for young people. Programs assisting people to adapt to changes in their lives can be tailored for organisations or schools.
