Facing
injury or pain in your life can be a dreadful experience,
one that no-one wishes upon anyone. However, many do not
realise the psychological influences that play a part
in injury, the management of injury and the pain associated
with it.
There are many issues concerning the management of injury
and pain including:
• The person's emotional response to injury and pain
• The person's cognitive response to (or how they think about)
injury and pain
• The response to injury of those around the injured,
including relatives, friends, work colleagues and social
acquaintances.
These issues play a role in determining how effective
the rehabilitation process progresses.
Here at DSA we are able to provide effective treatment
in pain management through providing our clients with
counselling, understanding, education and training in
such areas as positive self-talk, effective goal setting,
imagery and relaxation principles. With effective treatment,
the client will be able to 'get back on their feet' that
much better and quicker. They may then be better able to return
to work, to their sport, or simply to cope more effectively
with everyday life.
