Relationship counselling is difficult.
Often couples are only seeking counselling as a last resort
before splitting up, and they present in a very distressed
and sometimes hostile state. Other couples seek counselling
well before this stage. Some have no intention of separating
but wish to clarify or overcome specific difficulties
they are having.
At DSA Psychologists, we have experienced psychologists
used to assisting all kinds of relationship issues. Usually
we prefer both people to attend but relationship problems
can and are often discussed with only one of the partners
present.
Relationship counselling is offered to all types of couples
who are trying to resolve difficulties.
Common issues experienced by couples who seek relationship
counselling include:
• Poor communication
• Poor problem solving skills
• Developing understanding and tolerance of different
perspectives and roles
• Lacking of quality time
and pleasant shared experiences
• Needing renewed energy within the relationship
• Feeling that partner support is not sufficient
• Different partner and relationship expectations
• Sexual differences including satisfaction, libido and
frequency/quality differences
Couples can work with qualified DSA Psychologists to successfully
work through these issues.
Couples separating with unresolved custody and settlement
issues may also be seen for mediation counselling.
