Athletes
like yourself face pressures everyday, both on and off the
sporting arena. Some are easy to cope with. Others seem to
be overwhelming. A sport psychologist can help you cope,
whether the issue seems to be simple or a complex one.
You
can see us for a number of issues that you may need help
or counselling with. These include anxiety and panic,
depression, stress management, relationships with family
and friends, other players and coaches, grief and personal
loss, injury management, or body image to name a few. Of
course there are other issues that we can counsel you for.
Or maybe it is some help on the mental side of your sport
that you require. Some understanding and training in such
areas as motivation, concentration, relaxation, anxiety
management, confidence, professional attitude, imagery,
mental toughness or goal setting can help you to perform
at your best. Even if you cannot understand why you are
performing so well, we may be able to help you comprehend
it so that this type of performance can continue.
We also understand that sport plays only a part
role in your life. We can help you in those areas that
will enable you to improve your overall wellbeing and
ability to cope in your sporting as well as your
'other' life. Skills like time management, effective
communication, cultural awareness, and conflict management
are lifeskills that you can be trained in so that you
can utilise them in your sporting and other domains.
